ABOUT ME
My name is Shandy Cortes. I live in Central Texas with my husband and 3 kids. I love to swim, read and quilt.
My passion for birth began while preparing for my first homebirth with my 3rd child. I didn't know anything about birth with my first and hesitated to advocate for what I wanted with my second.
Each of my drastically different birth stories (and God) have led me to birth work. I feel so blessed to be a witness to the strength of women and the power of God through birth.
My Beliefs
It's important that your birth team shares your values.

Sanctity
Birth is sacred and intuitive. God and the birthing woman, guided by the Holy Spirit are the ultimate authority of birth. Women were created by divine design to birth God’s children in love and sacrifice.

Informed Consent
To fully surrender to God’s will, mother must know and consider all her options. Less interventions and disturbances lead to better outcomes. Mother’s mind leads the body and baby from beginning to end. Birth cannot be rushed but will always happen according to the Lord’s timetable or once all surrender to Him.

Birth is Trust
A birth team should be made up of trusted individuals who share birth values with mother. Birthing in a space where you feel safe and comfortable with people who make you feel safe and comfortable is optimal. Birth is not something that happens to you, it is something you prayerfully prepare for and experience. Women prepare for birth mentally, spiritually, and physically.

Pain with a Purpose
Heavy flow of oxytocin leads to faith-led birth experiences rather than fear and adrenaline led.
Birth pain is purposeful and beautiful. An opportunity to lean on the Savior and selflessly give yourself to help another (your baby). Birth has eternal significance and purpose.
